Varun Dhawan has invented and reinventing himself ever since he first stepped into Bollywood with his debut film, Student of the y ear and since then his flamboyance to his 360-degree performances haven’t gone un noticed.   From a romantic hero to his contrasting space on screen he has not only established himself but he is more than just the boy next door or the chocolate faced romantic hero.  Here is why we say that and let’s explore his 7 films on screen.

Student of the Year in 2012 in which Varun Dhawan made his debut served as a campus romance and a drama that is sweet. The audience lapped up the new romantic hero and he soon established himself as the boy next door with is looks and charm. 

Badlapur released in 2015, saw Varun Dhawan’s intent to take the centre stage in the cult film. He had an intriguing shade as an actor that portrayed him as the real performer. The one who could strike a balance between different cinematic space with ease.  The film spotlighted Varun with his range which had by now sparked the curiosity among the audience and his fans. 

Badrinath Ki Dulhania in 2017 had Varun Dhawan on a rollercoaster ride with laughter, romance and the slice of life moment. Badrinath Ki Dulhania took the audience by storm and there was no looking back.  As the young son of the wealth man from Jhansi the actor pulled off the role with his flamboyant body language and his looks that could kill.  The accent that brought about the concept of his family dynamics.

Sui Dhaaga in 2018 a family drama where in Varun Dhawan played the role of Mauji Sharma who along with his wife starts a small-scale clothing business.  With his engaging performance that was considered to be one of his finest, the actor broke his stereotype boy next door mould of innocence to be taken seriously as the small-town tailor that won the hearts of the audience. 

October in 2018 got Varun to headline and tapped in a subtlest shade to let his performance speak for itself.  No larger-than-life spectacle, no noise, no drama, no excessive drama and yet it was pure performance and narrative genre that worked for him. 

Bhediya in 2022. Varun headlined Bhediya, one of a kind of horror comedy films that was like a deal breaker for him in Hindi cinema.  A space that would otherwise be rarely be tapped by him, he took the creative risk with the drive that he had by playing a man who gets bitten by a wolf and he begins to transform into the creature. This horror comedy was one of its kind.

Border 2 release in 2026 placed himself in the league of the versatile actors such as the stalwart Sunny Deol. He stole the spotlight with his intent to reinvent himself as a performer as Hoshiar Singh Dahiya. The actor brought in the required grit and poise to play the dynamic soldier which got the audience to notice his range and the scope to grow further and go beyond.

Whether it is Badri or we know him now as Bhaskar as well but behind the vibrant character and to bring it alive is Varun Dhawan displaying his range which is only getting better by the years.
