Amrapali (2002)

The historical Vaishali setting of Amrapali. It chronicles Amrapali's abrupt development from a lovely, helpless child into a responsible adult. Amrapali was abandoned by her parents and was discovered by Mahanaman as a baby under a mango tree. He brought her to the village outside of Vaishali, where she was raised and fell in love with Harsh. She travels to Vaishali out of curiosity to witness the Phalguni Utsav, which is held every seven years to elect the new Janpath Kalyani of Vaishali. The most attractive and talented woman in the kingdom is awarded this title every seven years, after which she is free to entertain the men of her choosing.
