Imtihaan (1995)

The story of Imtihaan revolves around the life of Seema and Bharti. Bharti lives in Canada and is living the modern and liberated life. She is a little taken aback by the way her parents live in a conventional Indian setting and is not happy about it. Things get complicated in her life when her mother is adamant that she marry an Indian boy so that she can stay true to her roots. Bharti is upset and does not want to be imposed with her parents decisions. Seema is brought up in an orthodox family and is well versed with her cultural traditions. She however aspires to study further and stand on her own feet. However her parents want her to marry soon and start a family. Due to her overly submissive nature Seema agrees ot the marriage but it doesn’t last. The story then focuses how Bharti and Seema coming from two different backgrounds and upbringing meet each other on the internet and become close friends. They share all their joys and sorrows and struggle to keep a balance in their life in spite of all the obstacles life puts forth. The show is directed by Imtiaz Ali and produced by Anupam Kher. The star cast includes Raju Kher, Manoj Bajpayee and Renuka Shahane.
