Chandrachur attended the Welham Boy’s School, The Doon School in Dehradun and St. Stephens in New Delhi.

Chandrachur Singh was born in Delhi . He was born in a very affluent family. His father was an ex-MLA from Aligarh and his mother is said to be the daughter of Maharaja of Balongir in Orissa. A princely family background that he came from. Chandrachur Singh is also called Rocky by his close family and friends.

Chandrachur is a trained classical singer and has concentrated on music as well besides his role in the films.  Though his career is not yet finished, he is not much into films these days.

Chandrachur Singh made his debut in 1996 with the film Tere Mere Sapne produced by Amitabh Bachchan Corporation Limited. In the same year he also starred opposite Tabu in the film Maachis for which he won the Best Male Debut actor for his performance in Maachis at the Filmfare Awards.

Thereafter he appeared in many films some as the leading actor or as the supporting starcast in a pivotal role like his film Daag:The Fire 1999, Kya Kehna in 2000 with Preity Zinta, which was a multi star cast, Josh in 2000 opposite Aishwarya Rai and Shah Rukh Khan. After these good films that were a super hit, his career went on a decline because of the multiple dislocation of his shoulder joint which he had suffered during a water skiing in Goa.  He couldn’t work for a couple of months and had gained tremendous weight due to which he lost roles in good films.

Some of his films were Aamdani Aathani Kharcha Rupaiyaa in 2001, Bharat Bhagya Vidhata in 2002, and the Sarhad Paar which was shot in 2002 and was a delayed project. All three films faired badly at the box office and were declared as flop films.

In 2012, he surfaced once again in a multi starrer film Chaar Din Ki Chandni . The film also had stars featuring Tusshar Kapoor, Kulraj Randawa, Anupam Kher, Om Puri and Farida Jalal.  The film received mixed responses though despite a good star cast the film was a flop.

From 2012 to present, Chandrachur Singh joined in Bollywood again and played a role in the English film, The Reluctant Fundamentalist. He also appeared in a film called Ghaziabad which was delayed with its release for many years and was finally released in 2013.

He got his recognition from the films like Josh , Dil Kya Kare, Daag:The Fire in which his role was mucha ppreciated though being a supporting star cast he created a niche for himself on the screen.

Chandrachur Singh was active in the election campaign in Delhi. He won the Filmfare Awards for Best Debut Actor for the film Maachis in the year 1996.
