Biography
She made her film debut with the film Nakhuda and Naram Garam both the films which were released in 1981. Nakhuda , a story about different relationships. She has also acted in lots of television serials. Swaroop Sampat is remembered as Renu (Late Shafi Inamdar’s wife) in her television ‘Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi’, Rakesh Bedi and Satish shah were also in pivotal roles, which was a sitcom with funny happenings and had 67 episodes and a much loved character that she plays in the serial.
After her first film Swaroop got many offers and went on to act in films like Sawaal, Himmatwala, is an actress, model and educationist. She acted in films like Himmatwala, Lorie, Sawaal, Karishma, Bah, u Ki Awaaz, Saathiya, Saptapadi which was produced by Amitabh Bachchan, Ki and Ka and her most recent was in Uri:The Surgical strike in which she plays the role of a mother to Neha and Vihaan which was released in 2019, the story of Indian Military against the militants.
She was a popular household name with her role as Shanti in the Television serials like Yeh duniya gazab ki and All the Best.
Swaroop has directed a few gujarati and Marathi plays and acted with her husband actor Paresh Rawal. She has acted in a web series’ The Great Indian Dysfunctional Family’ in 2018 which stars Kay Kay Menon and Barun Sobti and Swaroop returned to the screen after two years. Her appearance in a Bikini in the Reena Roy- Kamal Hassan film Karishma shocked the entire nation. Swaroop has acted in many television commercials too and walked the ramp too.
Presently she trains primary school teachers in Gujarat using theatre skills and works under the Gujarat council for Research Training.
She has refused many roles in television and films as now her passion is to train and teach children so she travels all over India and uses drama techniques inspired by Aamir Khan’s movie ‘Taare zameen Par’.
Career & Achievements
Swaroop has graduated from Elphinstone College, Mumbai and then went to do her PH. D in Drama & Education at the University of Worcester, England. She has won the title of ‘Miss India” in 1979. Swaroop trains disabled children, teachers and parents on handling these special children and has written a book ‘Learning Disabilities in a Nutshell’ which is meant for problems like Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, Dyscalculia and Dyspraxia. She is a board member for an NGO called ‘Save the Children ‘on the improvement of children in India. After penning a lot of mails to various ministers finally got selected by Mr. Narendra Modi, Chief Minister then as the Head of the Educational program and was named Master Ji by him. Modelling for Lux, Shringar Kumkum, many more Ads made her very famous due to her pleasant face. The University of Worcester, England has teamed up with Dr. Swaroop Sampat (title after her PH. D)to offer a new training program Service to teachers through schools which will equip them with better skills. The Vice Chancellor Dr David Green of the University is extremely proud and delighted to work with her and is the first one to earn a Double Doctorate and Honorary Doctorate in inclusive education. Paresh Rawal (National Award-winning Actor/ Member of Parliament was at the function to felicitate and cheer his wife along with the Union Minister for Human Resource Development Honorable Prakash Javdekar.
