"Bheeshma Parvam" is an action thriller film of 2022 in Malayalam, directed by Amal Neerad and starring Mammootty, Soubin Shahir, and Sreenath Bhasi. Set in the late 1980s, the film is about Michael (Mammootty), a powerful member of a wealthy Kochi-based family, who evokes fear and respect because of his dark past and firm control over the affairs of the family.
Following the killing of his older brother Paily, Michael assumes charge of the family business. But as time goes by, family tensions mount. Michael's widow Fathima (Nadhiya) and sons Ajas (Soubin Shahir) and Ami (Sreenath Bhasi) are close to him but detested by the rest of the family. Michael's nephews Peter and Paul and dubious kin like Martin, a policeman, and T V James, a politician who wants to gain power, resent Michael's domination. Their plot thickens when they approach the Kocheri family, their arch-rivals who had lost two sons to Michael's fury earlier. They contract the services of Bada Rajan, a well-known Mumbai don, to kill Michael.
Family ties are tested once again when Michael stands up for Ajas and Rachel's relationship, Martin's daughter. Tragedy strikes when Ami gets killed, and tensions and suspicions rise. As secrets are revealed, it is discovered that Martin was involved in the murders of Paily and Fathima's second husband, Ali. A brutal assault leaves Michael hospitalized, but he comes back with a vengeance to settle scores.
“Bheeshma Parvam” is an urban gangster drama fueled by family, treachery, and retribution. Mammootty excels with an impressive performance of Michael, exhibiting him with rage and poise. The film fuses dramatic depth with primal action and sleek storytelling. A taut backdrop score, vivid cinematography, and an age-old backdrop elevate the film with a complex web of inheritance, loss, and revenge. One of Malayalam cinema's top contemporary action thrills.
