“Christopher” is a 2023 Malayalam-language crime action thriller directed and produced by B. Unnikrishnan, from a screenplay by Udaykrishna. The film stars Mammootty in the titular role and follows the path of ADGP “Christopher Antony,” (Mammootty) a police officer who resorts to vigilantism and encounters killings to administer justice where the system is powerless. Vinay Rai debuts in Malayalam, while Amala Paul has a prominent role.

The film starts amidst a violent riot in Kerala. Christopher's family is attacked by a gang of criminals: his sister is raped and killed, his parents are murdered, and their home is set on fire. Heartbroken and enraged, Christopher tries to take revenge, but police officer Vetrivel intervenes and instead kills the criminals. Extremely moved, Christopher decides to become a police officer and is mentored by Vetrivel during his studies. He eventually becomes an IPS officer.

As an ASP in Madhya Pradesh, Christopher starts targeting criminal landlords. With the help of SI Mohammed Ismail, he became infamous for encounter killings. He rises to the position of SP over a period of time and handles several high-profile cases, including one against Sebastian, a criminal who has connections to his wife Beena. When Ismail gets killed on a failed mission, Christopher adopts his daughter, Amina.

Christopher today investigates the murder of a lawyer, Amina, and discovers a rich businessman, Sitaram, who has committed the crime. The case is deep rooted in corruption, and with Beena getting murdered in a planned attack in prison, Christopher finally takes the law into his hands and kills Sitaram. He then goes on to adopt another girl, Amina, with the intention of restarting his life.

“Christopher” has all the makings of a thrilling cop thriller, but the execution is unbalanced. Although the plot is promising, it relies too much on formula. Mammootty contributes charm and panache, but the script does not leave him with much to showcase.
