Actor Emraan Hashmi spoke about the hypermasculine characters in the films and why Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal worked wonders. He said the men in the Hindi film industry are very insecure generally.
The hypermasculine man is seen as toxic and that’s what is doing the best in the theatres. Adding that there’s an uproar surrounding it but people are still buying tickets to watch. About the film ‘Animal’, he said there was a woke brigade against it but that was a perception and there are many men who identify with the character.
He went on to say the so called ‘hypermasculine man’ who are seen as toxic is what is doing best in the theatres. People go out and buy tickets to watch them . He also stated that films like Haq, or The Dirty Picture were entertainment as the entertainment industry is insecure. Men in the industry are ready to take a risk and how many would risk to do a film like Haq? Ever narrative showcased as a man’s victory. He also stated he is not blowing his own trumpet but the kind of films he has been doing, has the man’s victory shown in a subtle way. Though the films like The Dirty Picture did well with the subject but as actors we need to do more films like that , added Emraan .

The Dirty Picture in 2011 was a mega super hit film with the music that did extremely well was inspired from the life of Silk Smitha. Directed by Milan Luthria, it had one of the most talented actresses like Vidya Balan, Naseeruddin Shah, Tusshar Kapoor in the lead . The film was a critical and commercial success.
Haq, Emraan Hashmi’s latest release is based on the 1985 Supreme Court judgement on Shah Bano Begum case against Mohd Ahmed Khan. It was a landmark case which concerned the women’s rights and the maintenance laws in India. The story is about Shah Bano at 62 had filed a petition in the Indore court seeking maintenance from her divorce with her husband, an affluent well known lawyer Mohammad Ahmed Khan.

Anurag Sinha , Nannyish Sandhu and Amruta Khanvilkar are also in the star cast.
