Actress Amruta Subhash has created a niche for herself with thought provoking films and roles. The Gully Boy actress will soon be seen in the upcoming short film titled Phir Kabhi co-starring Manav Kaul. It is helmed by debutant director Nihit Bhave. The film will be screened at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IIFM) held between August 12-20th. It is the only Indian film festival backed by the Australian government and held outside India.

Phir Kabhi talks about a man finding the right words and moment to tell his wife how he felt differently about other boys in his school as a child, while his wife wants to tell him how her entire life has been imposed on her by others. What she wears, eats, studies or who she marries has always been dictated to her. The film will be highlighting the LGBT community.

Speaking of being a part of the film Amruta said, “It was a great experience to work with both Nihit and Manav. For me to decide whether to be part of a project or not, the most important thing is of course, the content. And when we met for the narration of Phir Kabhi, my instant impression was that it really was beautifully written and I instantly connected with the story. I loved the way Nihit handled the subject with such grace. I’m grateful that our film is getting this recognition. Hoping that the Australian audiences enjoy and relate to the film.”

Director Nihit added, “Indentifying myself as a gay man, I needed to talk about men in India who do not have the vocabulary to come out of the closet, let alone live their authentic lives.”
