Well known Indian music composer and santoor player Pandit Shivkumar Pandit passed away in Mumbai at 84. He was suffering from kidney related problems since the last six months due to which he was on dialysis. He suffered a cardiac arrest today and breathed his last. PM Narendra Modi offered his condolences on Twitter writing, “Our cultural world is poorer with the demise of Pandit Shivkumar Sharma Ji. He popularised the Santoor at a global level. His music will continue to enthral the coming generations. I fondly remember my interactions with him. Condolences to his family and admirers. Om Shanti.”

Pandit Shivkumar gave santoor, a musical instrument popular in native Jammu and Kashmir a classical status. He has also played his mesmerizing & sooting music in films like Silsila, Lamhe and Chandni among others, along with flute legend Pt Hari Prasad Chaurasia. Together they were known as Shiv-Hari.
