A pioneer in dancing with his impeccable dancing techniques and knowledge, well known dancer and choreographer Astad Deboo breathed his last at the age of 73, in his Mumbai home on the morning of 10th December 2020. He is known to choreograph the popular Hindi film by famous painter M.F. Hussain, titled, Meenaxi: A Tale of Three Cities. He is also known to have combined the dance forms of Kathak and Kathakali.

 

Some of Astad’s achievements include Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1995 and the Padma Shri in 2007. Student of the Year 2 actress Tara Sutaria was one of the first to offer her condolence and mourn his loss. She wrote on her social media account, “Rest in peace Astaad. The heavens will now swirl to your tune. Thank you for the guidance. @piasutaria @tarasutaria.”
