Ajay, played by Ajay Devgn lives with his honest and disciplinarian father Shastri. His father believes in the teachings of Gandhiji and follows in his footsteps. Ajay who works as a salesman, soon loses his job and is unemployed. He applies to many places but has no luck. Finally he applies in the police force but is turned down. He then takes a loan of Rs. 5 Lakhs to bribe his way to the merit list and thus gets shortlisted. However some differences crop up between the Home Minister and his father and his name gets dropped from the list. The borrowed money needs to be returned and Ajay in a desperate situation takes on the lucrative job of kidnapping.
Ajay manages to kidnap a government official for a huge ransom. Unfortunately, the kidnapped official was protected by the don Gaya Singh, who operates from jail. Things go horribly wrong and Ajay gets arrested and beaten up in jail. Gaya Singh also humiliates him. On being released Ajay is furious and decides to take matters in his own hands and kidnaps another government official who was supposed to be kidnapped by Gaya Singh under MLA Tabrez. A fierce fight ensues and Gaya is killed, thus Ajay takes over from him and Tabrez hails him in his good books. Later One day when Ajay refuses a kidnapping Tabrez takes it as him being against Tabrez. Ajay will not have to fight his own battle, where even his father has left his side.
The movie is directed and produced by Prakash Jha. The music is composed by Wayne Sharpe. The cinematography is by Arvind K.
