Rishi Kapoor, Paresh Rawal Find A Joy In Cooking To Escape Loneliness In Sharmaji Namkeen Trailer

The upcoming sweet family drama Sharmaji Namkeen tells the story of an elderly retired widower who discovers his love for cooking to escape the bitterness of life. The lead role is played for the first time by two different actors; the late Rishi Kapoor and Paresh Rawal. It is the Love Aaj Kal actor’s last Bollywood film before his demise in April 2020. 

 

Sharmaji Namkeen is a wholesome family entertainer that also stars Juhi Chawla, Suhail Nayyar, Taaruk Raina, Satish Kaushik, Sheeba Chaddha, and Isha Talwar. During the course of the filming that began in 2017, Rishi Kapoor fell ill and subsequently passed away. His son actor Ranbir Kapoor spoke about that memory and said, “The show must go on — you all have heard it but I have seen my father live that.” The Sanju actor further added, “After his demise, we thought the film wouldn’t get completed. We thought of trying VFX or I could wear prosthetics and complete the role but nothing was working out. It was a tough time for all of us. And that’s when Mr. Paresh Rawal stepped in. It was very generous of him to take up this challenge.” 

 

Sharmaji Namkeen is helmed by Hitesh Bhatia and produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar under the banner of Excel Entertainment in association with Honey Trehan and Abhishek Chaubey of MacGuffin Pictures. It will premiere on Amazon Prime Video on 31st March 2022.
