Akash Thosar was born in a small village Jesur in Karmala in Solapur in a middleclass family. A former wrestler, he was spotted at the Solapur railway station by Sairat film director’s brother Bharat Manjule and invited him for an audition for the lead role in the film. 

Akash’s father is a mason and his mother is a housewife.  The family were not financially welloff , the young star managed to make a mark in the Marathi Film Industry which changed his life for him and his family.. He has three siblings.

Akash had completed his schooling from Shri Shivaji Vidya Mandir in Aundh in Pune, followed by his Master’s degree

at Savitribai Phule Pune University.

The actor says he never thought of acting in films as his profession and had aimed to become a police officer or join the army. He has a keen interest in body building and wrestling being his favourite sport.  He had gone to Jeur to pursue wrestling while he completed his education simultaneously.

 

Akash says he is indebted to director Nagraj who gave him the opportunity and guided him like his mentor.. He still takes advise from him for his other roles.  Akash had no clue about acting and had never faced a camera before he gave his audition for the role in Sairat and was offered the lead role instead of the supporting role that he was giving the audition for.

He came to Mumbai for the first time and lived in Nagraj Manjule’s house lost 14 kgs for the role to look perfect and fit as the role demanded, he worked around to look the perfect and stunning Parshaya on-screen.

After the superhit film Sairat, he acted in films like ‘Friendship Unlimited’ in 2017, his role in the Netflix original series ‘Lust Stories’ an anthology film opposite Radhika Apte directed by Anurag Kashyap in 2018.

In 2019, he acted in the film ‘Jhund’. The film which stars Amitabh Bachchan will also feature Rinku Rajguru of Sairat fame.

Akash is now happy being a part of the film industry and after winning the National Award with Nagraj Manjule, life changed for him for the better and he could connect with the audience.

His impactful performance had won him a lot of applaud from the audience. His boyish charm won him the hearts of many, followed by his strong debut, he had also signed a film with the director Mahesh Manjrekar in 2017 alongside with Madhuri Desai, Sanskruti Balgude and Satya Manjrekar for the film
