Gulshan Grover was almost dropped from Jungle Book 2 by Columbia Pictures Readers may be shocked to know that though Hollywood film director Gulshan Ducan McLachlan, the director of Jungle Book 2, was mesmerized by Gulshan Grover’s dashing personality and his large bulging eyes but film producer’s Columbia Pictures had declined him as they only wished to work with American Actor. So how did Gulshan Grover get the coveted role of the main villain, Buldeo, the evil uncle of Mowgli who wants to take over his nephew's kingdom in the film Jungle Book 2? Well Gulshan Grover informed that while he was doing a show with ShahRukh Khan in the US, he was noticed by filmmaker Ducan McLachlan and he kept starring at him. Eventually he offered him the role. Gulshan Grover was on sky nine. When he returned to Mumbai he shared the news to his close friends. But after few days, Ducan McLachlan dropped a bombshell and gave the sad news to Gulshan that Columbia Pictures have replaced him with an Amrecian actor. Gulshan was shattered and forgot the episode as a bitter dream. However after few weeks, he got a call again from Ducan McLachlan calling him to do the films as the unit had dropped the American actor as he failed to deliver the required performance. Gulshan Grover heaved a sigh of relief and gave his best performance in the film. After this Gulshan Grover became a hot favorite down Hollywood and he did many films of France, Italy, Germany, UK and Canada and became a true International Actor.

Since school days Gulshan Grover aspired to be an actor Gulshan Grover had penchant for acting since his school days. He studied at Government school in Tri Nagar in New Delhi. During his school days he took active part in school drama and won prizes too. He used to take part in Ramleela in Tri Nagar annually. He started as member of Vanar Sena then moved to the Raavan ki sena and then eventually graduated to bigger roles. When he completed his graduation in Commerce from Delhi’s Sri Ram College of Commerce he took permission from his parents to go to Mumbai and make a career in films. In an interview he said unlike other stars who ran away from their village, leaving their parents in agony, he did not hurt his parents. Instead he had made his parents happy who had always encouraged him to pursue his passion and had given him the liberty to try his luck in Bollywood.” Gulshan Grover took proper training in acting While studying at Sri Ram College of Commerce, Gulshan Grover, had started training in acting and had joined ‘Little Theatre Group’. He did his graduation as he firmly believed education is mandatory in life. As regards career, he was sure he wanted to make a name in Bollywood. He said, when he landed in Mumbai, his only motive was to make money. Hence he did not go for short films or television or modeling had clear intentions of shining it only on big screen. Hence before hunting film studios Gulshan Grover thought it wise to sharpen his skills in acting and joined Mumbai’s celebrated acting institute Roshan Taneja’s acting school. Here he came in close contacts with top film star sons like Anil Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt and Mazhar Khan.

Gulshan Grover has not been successful in married life Gulshan Grover has not been successful in married life because he married twice but both ended in divorce. He first married Philomena Grover in 1998 but the relation could not last for over three years. After giving birth to a son the couple divorced. Gulshan Grover took custody of his son, Sanjay and today he lives with him. His second marriage to Kashish Grover in 2001 was also short lived and the duo separated soon after one year relation. They divorced in 2002.

Sanjay Dutt’s reference helped Gulshan Grover get his first film Rocky When Gulshan Grover was studying acting at Actor’s Studio (Roshan Taneja’s School) his colleagues included Sanjay Dutt, who was so impressed by Gulshan Grover that he recommended his father Sunil Dutt to introduce him in his debut film Rocky (1981). Gulshan Grover had a negative role. But before Rocky could be released Gulshan Grover’s Hum Paanch released in which he played one of the contemporary five Pandavs who unleash terror in the evil empire of village zamindaar played effectively by Amrish Puri. Gulshan Grover declined Nache Mayuri for his passion for negative roles Gulshan Grover in an interview had once confided that he had pre-planned to play only villain’s role as it gave opportunity to play a variety of characters’. Readers would be surprised to know that before Rocky, Gulshan Grover was offered many films but he declined as he insisted on only playing villain. Gulshan Grover was offered the Hindi version of South superstar N.T. Rama Rao’s hit film Naache Mayuri . In addition he was also offered a good film by his close friend Anil Kapoor but he refused due to which the actors had stopped talking to each other for a few weeks. After Ram Lakhan Gulshan Grover became a star With the success of Bad Man character, Gulshan Grover became a star villain and did a verity of roles in films. Some of his memorable roles include in films like Sir, Sadma, Diljale, Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi, Ram Jaane, Shola Aur Shabnam, Vishwatma, Saudagar, Mujrim, Hafta Vasuli etc. The highlight of his performance was that besides being powerfully performed he began a new trend in Bollywood by adopting a variety of menacing get-up and in each get-up he fuelled terrifying vitality that made him number one villain. Gulshan Grover proved his versatility in I Am Kalam Though Gulshan Grover gathered publicity as Bad Man but he proved his versatility as an actor par excellence by doing a positive role of a golden hearted dhaba owner, Bhati, in the film, I am Kalam. His role won him a Nomination at the National Award.
