Rakesh Srivastava

His early career was with his stints with All India Radio and his notable debut in the blockbuster film Maine Pyar Kiya in 1989.

Rakesh is known for his versatility and has been a veteran actor whose career spanned across nearly four decades in theatres, television and in films. He is one of the most celebrated stars for his coming timings and character roles particularly remembered for his iconic character of Lallanji in the popular SAB TV sitcom Lapataganj.

Rakesh Srivastava had begun his journey in the entertainment industry in the late 1980’s . His early career had begun with the All India Rado where he worked under the mentorship of legendary directors like Shyam Benegal and Ramesh Sippy.

He has appeared in numerous films such as Wah Taj and Son of Sardaar. In 2022 he appeared in Dasvi where he played the Lala Lajpat Rai in the social comedy film. His most profound impact has been on the television for his roles essayed and often called the Lion of Television for his extensive work in shows like Lapataganj as his portrayal as Lallanji that made him a household name. He played the historical role of Babu Jagjivan Ram in the mini series Samvidhaan. He featured as Pyarishankar in the much-acclaimed series, Stories by Rabindranath Tagore. His other comedy series were Dekh Bhai Dekh and Wagle Ki Duniya. He also featured in F.I.R.

Rakesh Srivastava had successfully transitioned into the digital space and had appeared in web series such as The Great Indian Wedding and Staff Room- Teacheron Ka Adda released in 2023.

His other contributions were beyond acting as a multi-faceted artist as he worked as an assistant director, writer and a voice artist. He has all along been very dedicated and committed to the craft. He then had returned to his roots at BNA Lucknow as a professor of acting and has conducted workshops for children’s theatre.

Rakesh has contributed to Indian entertainment in a big way that has earned him several accolades including the Bhartendu Samman, Awadhi Samman and the Shri Bal Gangadhar Tilak Sewa Samman 2024. He is still active in the film industry as of 2026 and recently appeared in the projects like Shree Baba Karori Maharaj.
