While she was studying at the Punjab University, she developed the love for dramatics and through her college theatre she discovered dramatics. Monika Panwar made up her mind to become an actress and joined the three years learning the art from NSD and in 2017, she joined the school project Robbie Er Aami by Debajan Paul’s short film which turned out to be her debut as an actress.
After her graduation Monika moved to Mumbai and started performing in theatrical plays such as ‘Aggarbatti’ and ‘Man Maana Square’. Directed by Swati Dubey, Aggarbatti was abased on the Behmai massacre which was committed by the dacoit woman Phoolan Devi and her gang to avenge her gangrape by the Thakurs, the uppercast men of Behmai. Monika Panwar had essayed a role of Damyanti, a widow of one of the men massacred in Behmai. ‘Aggarbatti’ won four awards which included for the Best Director, Best Actress, Best Original Script and Best Light Design. Monika’s name was also nominated for the Best Supporting Actress category.
In the same year 2018, the film ‘ Man Maana Square’ was produced by Red Mark’s Actor Studio, a theatre group who are based in Mumbai. The play had focused on four main characters and it captured primal instincts and curiosities. The play won four awards at the Thespo Awards in 2019 for ‘Outstanding Play’ and ‘Outstanding Ensemble’.
Monika has acted in films and web series like Jamtara, Mast Mein Rehne Ka. Gaanth Chapter 1: Jamnaaa Paar. She has further acted in the upcoming Amazon Prime Show Khauf for which she earned an IMDB Breakout Star Award for her work.
After audition she has been doing different kind of roles in short film titled , Destiny in the year 2018, directed by Vikkramm Chandirramani and was awarded the Best Foreign Film at, ‘The Ridgewood Guild Film Festival 2018. After months of audition the young actress did not receive big roles but she had not lost hopes. Monika made her appearance in a cameo role in the films like Super 30 , Love Aaj Kal and Class of 83.
Monika has been a part of the Netflix series, ‘Jamtara – Sabka Number Ayega’ released in 2020. The show was very popular and got her back on the radar as one of the promising actresses. Her performance was much appreciated . Netflix renewed the show for another season which was released in 2022. Even in the season two , Monika received a lot of praises for not only her performance but also for holding the show on her own in a series that is revolved predominantly with men.
In 2023, Monika has done two web shows and two films since then. The most notable of them are Vijay Maurya’s Mast Mein Rehne ka. Monika also shared screen with Huma Qureshi in Vipul Mehta’s Gulabi, and with Radhika Apte and Keerthy Suresh in the Netflix series called, ‘ Akka’ in which she starred with Abhishek Chauhan and Gagan Arora as her co-stars.
