Aayiram Jenmangal

“Aayiram Jenmangal” is a Tamil horror-fantasy comedy movie directed by S. Ezhil and produced by Ramesh P. Pillai under Abhisek Films. A 2019 release, the movie features G.V. Prakash Kumar, Eesha Rebba, Sakshi Agarwal, and Sathish. Combining horror and humour along with romance, the film features a chain of supernatural occurrences following a broken antique bottle that frees an otherworldly spirit.

The film tracks “Ravi” (played by G.V. Prakash), a man who in the past waited in vain to wed his sweetheart. Broken and isolated, he dedicates himself to work and shuns romance. Years down the line, while assisting his friend's cousin with a potential haunting, Ravi goes to Kerala. There, he meets Maya, a bright woman who reawakens his faith in love. But she vanishes suddenly, and Ravi embarks on a search for her. To his astonishment, he finds out that Maya had died in a road accident years earlier.

Ravi then encounters Nila, who looks like Maya but acts differently. The plot becomes supernatural when Nila's sister discloses that Maya's ghost had possessed Nila. The mystery becomes more intense when Maya's ghost appears once again, this time within a woman named Poorni. It is then revealed that Maya was Ravi’s first love, the same woman who died on her way to their wedding years ago. Through a combination of emotions, objects, and confrontations, Ravi gradually builds the truth up.

The film finally culminates in a spiritual confrontation, and with the assistance of a Swamiji, Maya's spirit is at last sealed into the bottle, and peace finally descends on all.

"Aayiram Jenmangal" attempts to do horror, romance, and comedy in equal proportions but ends up delivering a mixed bag. The movie has some fine scenes, but its tone change and complicated plot may confuse audiences. G.V. Prakash performs well, and the concept is interesting, but the execution falls short of the level of the film.
