Afsar is an Emotional-Romantic Musical-Comedy-Thriller Family Drama Film crafted with excellence by Chetan Anand and based on Soviet Literature- Gogol's play. The Story revolves around the life of Kapur (played by Dev Anand)- a kind and brave journalist who comes to a village ruled by an Evil Tehsildar (played by Kanhaiyalal Chaturvedi)- who along with his corrupt official misunderstood him as Government Inspector and treats him like an important person. However, Kapur fells in love with Bimala (played by Suraiya)- a sweet girl and sister of Tehsildar, and together they wanted to marry each other. Things get complicated- when he tried to bring down the corruption and Tehsildar comes to know his reality, leading to consequences.
