“Aval Peyar Rajni” is a 2023 Indian thriller film directed by Vinil Scariah Varghese, filmed in Malayalam and Tamil. It features Kalidas Jayaram, Namitha Pramod, Reba Monica John, Saiju Kurup, Ashwin Kumar, and Karunakaran.
The story follows siblings “Naveen and Gowri”, who are thrown into chaos after the murder of Gowri’s husband, “Abhijith”. As the investigation continues, Naveen works alongside Inspector Paul to solve the mystery. The more they delve deeper, the more lies are uncovered, and the more suspects, the more twists in the case. Among them is an auto driver called Selvam, who provides brief moments of humour to the otherwise gloomy story.
At the heart of the mystery is a single name, Rajni. Who is Rajni, and what is this individual connected to Abhijith's murder? As Naveen and Paul chase clues, they land themselves in a dangerous game where nothing seems as it ought to be.
"Aval Peyar Rajni" is not a thriller about taking the scenic route. The screenplay ensures the tension stays taut and that every scene builds upon it. Kalidas Jayaram shines in his role while Ashwin Kumar earns his stripes as the diligent investigator. Karunakaran's humor allows for a short respite from the tension, but it never undermines the film's seriousness. "Aval Peyar Rajni" is a taut mystery that has your full attention until the last moment.
