“Azhagiya Kanne” Written and directed by R. Vijayakumar and produced by Xavier Britto under Esthell Entertainers, is a 2023 Tamil romantic drama starring Leo Sivakumar and Sanchita Shetty.
The movie depicts “Inba” (Leo Sivakumar) as a firebrand youth of a small town close to Dindigul who aspires to be a filmmaker. His days are consumed by writing tales and producing dramas with local dramatic troupes. His neighbouring friend, “Kasthuri” (Sanchita Shetty), falls for him after he assists in directing a school play for the cultural festival in her college. Their relationship is enhanced, but the two belong to different communities and their relationship gets opposed by both families.
Willing to be with each other, Inba and Kasthuri get married without the approval of their families and settle down in Chennai to begin a new life. Inba has an opportunity to work under director Prabu Solomon, while Kasthuri finds employment with an IT firm. They soon have a baby girl, and life seems to be settling into a routine.
But their happiness is short-lived when a member of Kasthuri's family, still upset with her marriage, plans to get revenge. This introduces unsuspecting danger in their idyllic life and puts their relationship to the test. The ensuing is a saga of survival, love, and family as they struggle to cling to their new existence.
“Azhagiya Kanne” offers a common story of love between community lines, dealing with the woes of inter-caste marriage. Though the film tries to reflect social harmony and the plight of young couples, the screenplay fails to be creative and deep. The emotional scenes fail to touch, and the story is too predictable. The film fails to make a lasting impact despite its sincere efforts due to its clichéd treatment and absence of gripping drama.
