"Biriyani” is an action-comedy thriller Tamil film directed by Venkat Prabhu and produced by Studio Green. It features Karthi and Hansika Motwani, along with an ensemble cast of Premji, Nassar, and Ramki. The plot is about “Sugan”, a playboy with a weakness for biryani, and his friend “Parasuram”. Their life takes a serious turn when they are accused of murdering a businessman, “Varadharajan”.
The movie starts with Sugan and Parasuram running away from the police. There is a flashback in which it is shown that they had met Varadharajan at a corporate party and had impressed him. They go to his cocktail party later, get drunk, and go in search of biryani. They come across “Maya”, a strange woman, while going there. The following morning, they discover Varadharajan missing and his lifeless body in their car boot. Marked as fugitives, they have to establish their innocence while avoiding the police.
During their investigation, they discover a deceitful web of corrupt officers and assassins. Maya admits that she had drugged them at the behest of the police but is killed before she could tell the entire truth. “Vikram” is shown to be the actual mastermind behind the operation, who devised the entire plot to protect his brother Avinash from prosecution for his criminal activities. A climactic showdown ensues, resulting in a fierce battle between Sugan and Vikram with their fates hanging in the balance.
“Biriyani” is a great blend of comedy, suspense, and action while keeping the audience amused. Karthi gives a breezy performance, and the surprises keep the film alive and buzzing. Biriyani is a balanced mixture of comedy and crime, but some scenes drag the film's storyline out as well. Yuvan Shankar Raja's music enhances the fun but suspenseful storyline of the thriller.
