Synopsis

Nandini, played by Aishwarya Rai, is a vivacious and free-spirited girl who loves life. She is brought up in a big joint family and is the apple of her father’s eye. One day a man named Sameer, played by Salman Khan, comes from Italy, to her father to learn music. Her father being a maestro and kind hearted he invites Sameer to stay over at his place till his lessons are completed. Meanwhile Sameer and Nandini fall in love. Few family members in the household get a hint of it but no one says a word until a cunning aunt tells her father, when his niece has eloped with her boyfriend. Nandini’s father is furious and feels deceived that being a guest of their house, Sameer has dared to woo his daughter. He asks him to leave and vows never to sing again. A heartbroken Nandini swears never to marry and tries to kill herself by slashing her wrists but survives. Meanwhile she gets a proposal from a family friend’s son Vanraj, played by Ajay Devgn. Her parents agree to the marriage and she reluctantly agrees. Vanraj is not happy at Nandini being cold and distant towards him but she is undeterred. One day Vanraj reads Sameer’s letters written to Nandini and is furious. He tells her to go back to Sameer and takes her to Italy to meet him. Nandini is upset that Vanraj is trying to do her a favor and might want something in return but Vanraj is a compassionate man. Even though he is in love with his wife he willingly lets her choose her happiness.
