Idli Kadai

Idli Kadai is an upcoming Indian Tamil-language drama film written, directed, and co-produced by Dhanush under his banner Wunderbar Films, in association with Dawn Pictures. The film marks another directorial venture for Dhanush and features him in the lead role alongside Nithya Menen, with an ensemble cast including Arun Vijay, Shalini Pandey, Sathyaraj, R. Parthiban, P. Samuthirakani and Rajkiran. with Kiran Koushik's cinematography, and G. V. Prakash Kumar's music.

The movie centres on Sundar, a third-generation idli vendor in a small hill town who manages Anandha Idly Kada, his family's modest restaurant. When a corporate wellness chef opens a contemporary gourmet idli shop across the street, Sundar finds that tradition is being threatened by commercialism. A passionate documentary filmmaker named Meera shows up to document Sundar's distinctive recipes, and their rich cultural heritage as the two competitors square off. The story progresses to a significant food festival where pride, tradition and communal ideals are ultimately tested in a gastronomic battle.

Dhanush portrays Sundar, a character torn between tradition and contemporary demands. Starring as Meera, a filmmaker rediscovering her roots, is Nithya Menen. Rajkiran, Sathyaraj, and Samuthirakani all have important supporting parts, while Arun Vijay plays the slick antagonist. On Dhanush's birthday, the first single, "Enna Sugam," was released. It was widely praised for its folk-inspired melody and Tamil village-inspired visuals.

Due to post-production delays and careful scheduling to avoid conflicting with other significant releases, Idli Kadai was rescheduled from its original April 2025 release date to October 1, 2025. Early in September 2025, the official trailer is anticipated to be released, generating excitement with tidbits of humour, emotion and food culture. In addition to Dhanush's performance, viewers should enjoy this movie for its heartfelt storytelling, and culinary activism and celebration of Tamil heritage against a delicious backdrop.
