"Irugapatru" is a 2023 Indian Tamil-language romantic drama directed and written by Yuvaraj Dhayalan. Vikram Prabhu, Shraddha Srinath, Vidharth, Sri, Abarnathi, and Saniya Iyappan feature in the movie, depicting the woes of three couples with insecurities and emotional detachment in their marriages.
"Mithra" (Shraddha Srinath) is a marriage counsellor who assists couples in sorting out their problems, yet her own union with "Mano" (Vikram Prabhu) is anything but perfect. She is able to advise others, yet is unable to communicate her own feelings, causing tension within the couple.
Two of her clients are couples with special problems. "Rangesh" (Vidharth) and "Pavithra" (Abarnathi) have been together for years, but Rangesh's job dissatisfaction shows in the form of constant belittling of Pavithra's weight. Dignity wounded but undeterred, she begins to exercise, not only for him but for herself, building her self-confidence in the process. When Rangesh loses his job, he comes to finally confront his long-time frustrations and, with Mithra's guidance, discover his real passion. Pavithra stands by him, and the two reconnect.
The second couple, "Arjun" (Sri) and "Divya" (Saniya Iyappan), has an issue of insecurity. Arjun, who feels overshadowed by Divya's intellect, keeps correcting her errors to exert control over her. Their relationship crumbles, but when Arjun comes clean and tells Divya that he was in the wrong, she forgives him, and they patch things up.
Meanwhile, Mano and Mithra's relationship reaches the bottom when he discovers she treats their marriage like a counseling case and not how she feels about it. However, when he discovers letters written by her according to her sentiments, he gets to know his problems at last. The film conveys an emotional message of communication, respect for oneself, and self-correcting which makes Irugapatru realistic and introspective on modern relationships.
