Under the direction of Manoj T Tadav, Jangar (2025) is an emotional mystery drama from Malayalam cinema. It features Shabreesh Varma, Sarath Appani, Shweta Menon and Sudheer Karamana. The movie is about a man named Abheendran who is trying to escape his past. He goes to a remote island in search of a new beginning. He makes an unexpected connection with Nakshatra and has to deal with his old rival, Mahendran. Old secrets come to light, and he has to choose between running away, making things right.

Abheendran, a man trying to escape his past, comes to the faraway island of Velliyanthuruthu. Abheendran can only get to this island by ferry, which is called Jangar. This makes it the perfect place for him to start over. But life on the island isn't as easy as he thought it would be when he got there. He would be pressured into an unexpected marriage with Nakshatra, a quiet woman who also has her secrets. Slowly, Abheendran and Nakshatra started to understand one another. Just when they think they have settled life's issues, Mahendran (a man from Abheendran's past, the past he was hoping to run away from) arrives on the island and begins reflecting tension into Abheendran's life.

The people of the island, Malli being a key force on the island and a strong woman, are essentially caught up in the brewing conflict between Abheendran and Mahendran. As the untold truths about Nakshatra’s past begin to unfold and Abheendran’s reasons for distancing himself come to light, Abheendran is forced to confront the very things he tried to leave behind. Ultimately, he stands up to Mahendran, clears his name and accepts his life. With Nakshatra arriving just after peace has been established on the island, Abheendran finally found what he was searching for all along, not escape, but belonging.

Jangar is a quietly resonating experience that stays alive in you long after the lights come back on. There is a patient journey to the story grounded in emotional honesty, adding realism to the narrative. The rawness of the characters’ struggle, juxtaposed with tenderness in the way they handle their struggle, is vivid and expressive. Rather than hurrying toward moments of thrill, you are invited to contemplate the silences, the storms and connected moments. It’s a hauntingly grounded experience.
