"Komban" is a 2015 Tamil action drama film directed and written by M. Muthaiah. The film features Karthi, Lakshmi Menon, and Rajkiran. The plot is about Komban, a tough but short-tempered man who fights against injustice but cannot keep violence at bay even after marriage.
Kombiah Pandian (Karthi), nicknamed Komban, resides with his mother, Kottaiamma (Kovai Sarala), in Ramanathapuram. He is a good-hearted and just man but tends to lose his temper often and uses violence. He develops a crush on Pazhani (Lakshmi Menon), the daughter of Muthiah (Rajkiran), a fine man in the village. Kottaiamma suggests the union, and although Muthiah is apprehensive about Komban's outbursts, he consents because of Komban's good nature. The wedded couple is formed, and Komban vows to reform. But trouble starts when Komban gets in the way of Gundan Ramasamy (Super Subbarayan), a local mafia type. Muthiah grows increasingly agitated, realizing this will kill Komban.
Events go sour once again when Pazhani is kidnapped by Ramasamy in an attempt to take Komban by surprise. However, Muthiah is brash and, fighting bravely, assaults Ramasamy and his gang in order to free his daughter. Afterwards, during a festival at a temple, Ramasamy stages yet another murderous assault. This time, however, Komban gets his revenge. He kills Ramasamy and saves Muthiah, proving that even if his temper is hot-headed, his motives are always knightly and safeguarding. In this battle, Komban gains not only the respect of his relatives but also the trust of the entire village.
"Komban" is an intense rural action drama with emotionally strong scenes and robust performances. Karthi gives a hard-hitting performance as the brave but emotional Komban. Rajkiran as Muthiah lends gravity to the role of father-in-law. The movie balances action and family emotions nicely and hence is a good watch for village-based drama fans with a moral twist.
