“Local Sarakku” is a 2024 Tamil romantic comedy film, directed by S. P. Rajkumar and produced by K. Vinothkumar. Produced with Dinesh Kumar, Yogi Babu, and Upasana RC, the movie combines a social message relating to alcoholism and its outcomes with humor.

‘Dinesh and Yogi Babu” are two very close friends and spend most of their time alcoholically. Their free-spirited life is given a twist when Dinesh gets romantically involved and wishes to marry. Everything goes well at the start, but his addiction to alcohol soon causes unrest in his marriage, resulting in a breakup with his wife. When their relationship begins to crumble, Yogi Babu comes in to help his friend salvage the situation. In his own quirky way, he tries to bring the couple back together as he deals with his own war with alcohol.

Not only does the movie highlight the impact of alcoholism on relationships, but it also contains a subtext about women standing up for themselves and living fearless lives. The movie is supposed to be a comedy, but there is an emotional core that explores the way addiction unfolds in terms of individual relationships and the need for change.

“Local Sarakku” depends on comedy to address a serious issue but has trouble getting its enjoyable sequences in tandem with a strong emotional draw. Even as Yogi Babu's timing adds that charm, the film could have otherwise provided an interesting and informative ride.
