Harnam Singh Rawail directed film Mere Mehboob starring Rajendra Kumar, Sadhana, Ashok Kumar, Nimmi, Pran and Johny Walker is a plot unveiled from the Aligarh Muslim University wherein the hero Anwar Hussain falls in love with a woman with a veil.

En route to Lucknow, Anwar meets the Nawab Buland Akhtar Changezi and subsequently he asks Anwar to teach poetry to his sister..and he agrees not realising that his sister is the same girl in the veil. Both fall in love with each other and Nawab approves even though Anwar comes from a poor lifestyle.

A formal engagement is to be announced between the two when the heavily indebted Nawab realises that his mansion as well as his belongings are going to be auctioned. He also comes across that Anwar is a brother of a lowly courtesan Najma whom he himself is in love with. Nawab is in a dilema whether he can choose happiness for his sister over the family honour as he gets a proposal for his sister from a very wealthy but characterless man, role played by Pran.

A romantic film with a sublime music by Naushad, its a social drama set in Lucknow with elaborate sets and costumes. The film unfolds with a few obstacles, misunderstandings seasoned with some humour and comedy by Johny Walker's antics .The film has a haunting music, ' Mere Mehboob tujhe'.

The film is also about relationships between a brother and sister set in a grand Mughal Palace of 1950. A truly heart rendering love story with some suspense and a mix of romance and history that one would love to watch. The dance number, ' Jaaneman Ek Nazar Dekhle' performed by Ameeta leaves you asking for more .
