Murattu Kaalai

Directed by S. P. Muthuraman, "Murattu Kaalai" is an action movie. Features Rajinikanth, Rati Agnihotri, Jaishankar and Sumalatha. The narrative centres on Kaalaiyan and his brothers, who, though affluent, opt to lead a modest, and simple existence. Their quiet world is shattered when Sundaravelu, a sly and greedy man, aims to grab their property.

Simple life is led by Kaalaiyan, a wealthy and well-regarded landlord, along with four younger brothers in a hamlet. Sundaravelu, another wealthy but greedy landlord in a nearby village, wants to take Kaalaiyans' territory. He dispatches Saamipillai, his aide, to make an offer. Unbeknownst to Sundaravelu, Saamipillai is plotting vengeance since Sundaravelu's father had killed his family. Kaalaiyan won't sell. Saamipillai proposes organising a jallikattu show with prizes that would be Sundaravelu's sister, Soundaryam. Though Kaalaiyan prevails, she rejects the marriage, infuriating Sundaravelu and damaging Soundaryam.

Later, Sundaravelu attempts to compel Kannamma, a village girl, to marry him. She escapes and seeks shelter from Kaalaiyan, who gives it to her. Her brothers like her and desire Kaalaiyan to wed her. Sundaravelu sends a killer, Sangili, to halt the wedding, but Kaalaiyan defeats and spares him. Sundaravelu kills Sangili and blames Kaalaiyan. Police show up on the wedding day, and Kaalaiyan flees into the woods. Learning the truth, Soundaryam goes to aid him but is inadvertently murdered by her brother in a brawl. Kaalaiyan pretends to pass away, shows up in disguise at Sundaravelu's birthday, and discloses all. Saamipillai offers evidence against Sundaravelu. Knowing defeat, and Sundaravelu ends his life. Kaalaiyan meets Kannamma once again.

"Murattu Kaalai," a gripping 1980 action drama, combines rural beauty with strong emotional conflict, and strong confrontations. The movie is notable for its great depiction of family values, moral courage, and the eternal conflict between good and evil.
