“Narkarappor” is a 2024 drama film that has been written and directed by Shree Vetri and produced by Velayudham under V House Production. The film stars Lingesh and Abarnathi in the main roles, and it is a cerebral film with a tale on social problems, discrimination by caste, and the game of chess.

The movie is inspired by the life of a boy belonging to a sanitation worker community who dreams of becoming a chess GrandMaster in the face of discrimination and hardship. Since he was born in a lower class, he is insulted and belittled every moment and even denied admission to schools and public institutions. His mother, played by “Abarnathi”, is a sanitation worker and fights everyday to improve the life of her son. Their woes appear endless as society keeps pushing them down.

All this changes once the boy's incredible chess ability begins to shine. In spite of all odds against him, he demonstrates that genius and intellect have no caste or class restrictions. As he succeeds in the game of chess, he is faced with mighty opponents in and outside the game: rich elites unwilling to recognize his greatness and a system ensuring that someone like him fails.

The film uses the game of chess to a great extent as allegory for the game of life and demonstrates how careful thinking, will power, and courage can succeed even in the most unfavorable situations. The boy, through his experience, gives an example of determination and potential to overcome even the biggest obstacles for his country.

“Narkarappor” is a motivational and emotional film that unveils caste discrimination, social injustice, and the power of dreams. With fine acting and an interesting story, it is a deeply emotional experience, and hence it is a must-watch for all who appreciate meaningful films.
