“Netru Indha Neram” is a 2024 Tamil thriller mystery film directed and written by Sai Roshan K.R. and produced by Clapin Filmotainment’s K.R. Naveen Kumar. The film features Shariq Hassan as Nikhil and Haritha as Rithika, along with Monica Ramesh as Shreya and Kaviya Amira as Nithya.

The tale revolves around seven friends who take a holiday in Ooty as a leisure trip. Their holiday turns into a horror show when one of them vanishes in strange circumstances. When they go searching for their missing friend, they find out that they could have fallen into the clutches of a notorious serial killer who is still roaming free.

The suspense builds as the group attempts to connect the pieces together, but the killer is always one step ahead of them. Their holiday of peace turns into a struggle for survival and they start to suspect each other. Who is the killer responsible for the murders? Will they rescue their missing friend before time runs out? Or will they be next on the killer’s hit list?

The movie creates suspense through suspenseful interrogation scenes and spooky situations that hold the viewer’s attention. Shariq Hassan has done a good job in playing Nikhil, the resolute friend who leads the search. There is no impact made by the supporting cast and there are underdeveloped characters.

While the film takes off in an interesting fashion, it weakens in the second half and fails to make its full mark. The screenplay is also lacking in thoughtfulness, and suspense in the film disappears too abruptly. Director Sai Roshan has a nice idea but could improve the screenplay further with nicer twists and better characterization.

“Netru Indha Neram”, which released on March 29, 2024, is a sufficient thriller with some flashes of thrills lacking but short of being an outright chilling mystery. It is a worth-watching film for serial killer fans, but it could have been so much darker.
