Directed by S.A. Chandrasekhar, “Once More” is a rom-com drama film. Features Shivaji Ganesan, Vijay and Simran. The film follows Vijay, a carefree and irresponsible man, who convinces an elderly stranger named Selvam to pose as his father for the sake of securing a crucial business deal. What begins as a staged arrangement gradually transforms into a meaningful bond, as both men start to positively influence and support each other’s lives.
Vijay is a 25-year-old entrepreneur, running his own company as well as serving as the managing director of a tea estate in Ooty. His misplaced priorities, desire to have fun and be innovative, end up costing the company dearly, all while ignoring the harm his mismanagement and cavalier attitude do. To fix the problem, Vijay’s father, Rajashekar, is summoned from the United States but dies in an aeroplane accident en route to India. Vijay’s uncle Ashok has the bright idea to hire an old man to play his dad on a short-term basis, which takes them to Selvam at a retirement home in Coimbatore. Selvam agrees to the request and starts playing the role of Vijay's father.
As Selvam starts following Vijay's blissed-out millionaire rich guy lifestyle, he remembers what it was like to be young and stupid himself. Selvam has been apart from his wife, Shantha, for 34 years, and Vijay vows to help reunite them. In the meantime, Kavitha gets hired into Vijay’s firm, and he falls in love with her, but their romance gets messy under her mother’s disapproval. Kavitha’s motivation is revenge on Vijay for rejecting her sister Anju, who then commits suicide, but through Selvam’s and Ashok’s influence, Kavitha begins to realise that Vijay is a good guy. In the finale, Kavitha and Vijay are reunited, and Selvam comes back to Shantha, giving both couples a joyful ending.
“Once More,” written by Kristine M. Reyes, is a charming mix of comedy, drama, and good old-fashioned feels that focuses on unlikely friendships and happy endings. Infused with humour and poignancy, the film takes an intimate look at a search for redemption, the power of family ties, and the process of healing. With a perfect mix of whimsical delight and heartfelt poignancy, the kind that makes you laugh and cry at the same time, it produces a wrap-around-their-heart effect.
