"Oopiri" (2016) is a Telugu-Tamil bilingual comedy-drama directed by Vamshi Paidipally. It features Akkineni Nagarjuna, Karthi, and Tamannaah Bhatia as actors. The movie depicts the friendship between a disabled billionaire and his free-spirited caretaker, portraying how friendship makes their lives worth more than riches and disability.
Vikramaditya (Akkineni Nagarjuna), who is a businessman and rich, becomes a paralysed quadriplegic due to an accident in paragliding. He leads a lifeless and unemotional existence until he encounters Seenu (Karthi), a spunky ex-con who applies for the position of caretaker only to avoid imprisonment.Despite opposition from his friend Prasad (Prakash Raj), Vikramaditya hires Seenu, who brings vibrancy, humour, and a new perspective into his life. Seenu's boldness and honesty command Vikramaditya's trust. He even urges Vikramaditya to confront his fears, particularly his reluctance to meet Priya (Shriya Saran), a woman he bonds with through letters. At the same time, Seenu has his own family problems, particularly when the marriage of his sister Swathi is spurned because they belong to a poor background. Vikramaditya covertly assists Swathi, creating a poignant moment between the two men.
This relationship becomes even stronger when Seenu takes Vikramaditya on holiday to Paris. There, both start living life once again; Seenu begins dating Keerthi (Tamannaah), and Vikramaditya encounters Nandini (Anushka Shetty), now married blissfully. Seenu gives the thrill of living again to Vikramaditya through a symbolic motorcycle ride. But when Seenu's younger brother gets into trouble, Vikramaditya asks Seenu to leave the job and begin a better life. Seenu turns into a cab driver and regains the affection of his family, while Vikramaditya returns to a lonely routine. Subsequently, concerned about Vikramaditya's health, Prasad calls Seenu. In a sentimental reunion, Seenu revives his friend with a humble meal and his perpetually smiling nature.
"Oopiri" is a heartwarming story about friendship, second chances, and the joy of living. Nagarjuna’s quiet strength and Karthi’s energetic performance complement each other beautifully. The film blends humour and emotion, proving that true freedom comes not from wealth or ability but from love, support, and learning to embrace life.
