"Pizza 3: The Mummy" is a horror thriller film that was released in the year 2023 by director Mohan Govind, with Thirukumaran Entertainment producing. It stars Ashwin Kakumanu, Raveena Daha, and Pravithrah Marimuthu on board, this movie is the third installment in the Pizza franchise that explores the supernatural mystery of a haunted mummy statue.
The movie begins when a family receives a tiny mummy sarcophagus as a gift, and then strange things begin happening in their home shortly thereafter. A toy becomes possessed and plays on its own, the lights flicker, and one can feel the presence of an immanent spirit lingering about. The father then relays a frightening experience from his own life, only to have the same demon subsequently kill him. This set of tones is then continued through a series of unexplained deaths.
Elsewhere, "Kayal," an app developer, shows off her product that will converse with spirits. Things go awry during a live demo, linking her story to an Egyptian mummy with malevolent energy who is reputed to be in Chennai. Simultaneously, "Nalan," a restaurateur, comes across the same mummy sarcophagus left behind by a customer. Shortly later, strange events occur in his kitchen: the lights flicker, food appears magically, and inexplicable sounds resound during the evening.
As the story unfolds, Nalan is connected to a series of brutal killings, including those of a man called Veera and fashion designer Aravind. Nalan employs the help of Kayal and her app to probe and finds a haunting past of a girl called Mitra and her mother, who were brutally assaulted and murdered by a group of men, all of whom are now being killed by the spirits seeking justice.
Though "Pizza 3: The Mummy" is a well-thought-out premise, the movie is bogged down with a long history and slow pace. Though it contains some emotional depth and shocking surprises, at other times the plot is too stuffy and rambling.
