"Priyamudan Priya" is an Indian Tamil drama film released in 2023 and directed as well as produced by A. J. Sujith. Starring Ashok Kumar and Leesha Eclairs, the film is about an emotional, suspenseful drama that unfolds within a radio station and a family house.
"Priya" , a popular radio jockey, is loved by thousands with her gentle voice and emotional chats on air. As she is gearing up for her last show before her wedding and scheduled shift to another city, things take a sinister and unforeseen turn in her life. A stranger burgles her home and abducts her sister and nieces. He calls Priya with a threatening offer: go on hosting her show without halt, only for him, or else jeopardize the lives of her family.
This is followed by a tense, in-the-moment psychological battle. On-air, Priya has to be herself and maintain the show, as she privately looks for clues to rescue her family. She can't warn anyone, and whatever she says is being monitored by the kidnapper. With no time and mounting pressure, Priya has to deal with the fan's repulsive fixation while figuring out his identity and motive.
The narrative is sustained by Priya's emotional resilience and bravery, as she navigates between her private war and public persona. Her on-camera facade is the only tool she has in a sinister game of survival as a woman, a sister, and a celebrity.
"Priyamudan Priya" tries its hand at something different: a mix of drama and psychological thriller. Leesha Eclairs supports the emotional crux of the film with a genuine performance. Although the story unfolds at a consistent rate, the confined setting and the repeated scenes restrict it. Nevertheless, the theme of a radio jockey involved in a macabre game lends newness to this otherwise straightforward thriller.
