"Ra Ra Sarasukku Ra Ra" (2023) is a Tamil romantic comedy film written and directed by Keshav Depur. The movie features Karthik Pamidimukkala and Gayathri Patel and is produced by Jayalakshmi under Sky Wanders Entertainment. The title is taken from a song in Chandramukhi (2005).
The film is centered on the plot about a women's prison warden who comes up with an idea of assassinating a popular host of a reality show for exploiting women convicts. In order to implement the idea, she releases a trusted convict to enter a women's hostel with a hidden camera and get close to the target.
At the same time, a young man visits the same hostel, disguising himself as an organizer of a birthday party. His actual assignment is to give a special "gift", a concealed camera to the birthday girl. During the course of the night, several people with various reasons find themselves within the hostel, resulting in complete chaos.
To further perplexed, a prank call avatar on the internet gets involved, which further adds to the confusion. Meanwhile, a lad breaks into a room to surprise her girlfriend for her birthday. With mistaken identities, misunderstandings, and accidental encounters all piling up, the hostel becomes a location for continuous fun and bedlam. While Tamil cinema has had mixed reviews on adult comedies which had been labelled offensive for being too racier, “Ra Ra Sarasukku Ra Ra” offers a spin on adult comedies by balancing jocular humor alongside a satire, tackling heavy issues.
The film succeeds in being entertaining without being dirty or inappropriate. It relies heavily on slapstick humor and hyperbolic, over-the-top outcomes while still holding the interest of the audience. Overall, it is not only raucous but also a fun way to contribute to the idea of adult comedy and will resonate with those who enjoy slapstick style humor.
