The film tells a riveting story of Raja, the son of a privileged estate owner, who returns to his village to fight for justice for the murder of his father. He joins forces with his childhood friend to expose the criminals, but the gang learns of their plan, murders his friend and sets Raja up to take the fall for the murder.
When his wife, Sarasu and her brother Aadimoolam kill him because Sarasu wants to inherit his estate. When his son, Rajashekar, comes home from studies in the U.S., he smells a rat. To discover the truth and bring his killers to justice, he convinces his friend Sethupathi, a rickshaw puller, to impersonate him. Everything falls apart when Aadimoolam finds out about the duplicitous scheme, murders Sethupathi, and frames Raja for the assassination. Raja is subsequently arrested and sentenced to death. It is then that Raja finds himself falling head over heels in love with Senkamalam, the sister of one of his plantation labourers.
In the same village, another man named Chinnaraasu, who is identical to Raja, appears. His only hope is to marry his sweetheart, Lakshmi. When Raja breaks out of jail, he crosses paths with Chinnaraasu and persuades him to assume his identity in jail so that he can clear his name. After many dramatic turns and obstacles, Raja ultimately succeeds at bringing the true perpetrators of the crime to justice and proving his innocence. In the climax, good triumphs, Raja weds Senkamalam, and Chinnaraasu achieves his objective of marrying Lakshmi. It’s the quintessential arc of drama and budding romance met with smart, well-thought-out fiscal strategy that suggests an ending one could only wish for.
