“Ranam Aram Thavarel” is a Tamil thriller mystery film by Sherief, featuring Vaibhav, Nandita Swetha, and Tanya Hope. “Shiva”, a gifted facial reconstruction expert, is approached by the police when they find an unidentified decomposed female body in Madhavaram Lake. As he is sketching the face, he becomes pulled into a series of horrific murders in which body parts turn up in various public areas, adding to the intrigue.

Shiva, however, also has demons of his own. He suffers from loss of memory as a result of a fatal accident where his wife, “Kavya”, was murdered. In an attempt to remember her, he keeps listening to stories of their history and continuously draws her face. While working on the police case, he fights with gangsters from an old case, risking his life.

As the investigation continues, “Officer Rajendran”, who first carries out the case, warns Shiva away. However, Rajendran vanishes soon after. The case is then taken over by Inspector Indhuja, determined to get to the bottom of the gruesome murders. Despite danger lurking, Shiva persists in his quest for the truth, which leads to a dramatic revelation that relates his past to the current murders.

The movie has an interesting concept but falls short in execution and pacing. Though Vaibhav makes a believable character out of the troubled protagonist, the story sometimes appears to be stretched. The climax offers an interesting twist, but the preparation lacks the suspense needed. “Ranam Aram Thavarel” manages to impress at times as a psychological thriller but has room for a better gripping execution.
