“Saandrithazh” is a 2023 Indian Tamil-language drama film produced by S. J. S. Sundaram and J. V. R. under the banner Vettrivel Cinemas and directed by Nawin Ghanesh. Harikumar and Roshan Basheer play the lead roles in the movie, which deals with a model village that is the focal point of an unforeseen political standoff.

The location is Karuvarai, a village renowned for harmony, discipline, and being crime-free. The reason why Karuvarai is remarkable is because it is using CCTV surveillance in a new and innovative way, and through this, the village has maintained peace and order among its population. Irrespective of religion, class, or caste, the village people live happily together and adopt a way of life based on morality and communal living.

"Vellaisamy" (Harikumar) is one such well-respected member of the village who leads people with wisdom and dignity. He and the rest of the villagers shun bad habits, bring up their children with good values, and guard their village's culture. Appreciating the efforts of Karuvarai, the government decided to award it the President's Award for Best Village.

But, to qualify for the award, the village must go through some political rituals. When the villagers refuse to bend their principles for publicity, it results in a clash with the political class and government bureaucrats. The story then takes a flashback explaining the long and painful journey the village had to take to arrive at where it is now, one of sacrifice, self-discipline, and redemption from a tarnished past.

Harikumar is best suited to be a wise panchayat head, with “Radha Ravi” providing a firm political presence. “Saandrithazh” serves a powerful lesson on the value of collective values and the cost of moral choices. Although the film progresses in a steady flow, it has an emotional nucleus and timely social commentary that warrants a watch.
