Shankar Saleem Simon (1978) is a drama film by the director P. Madhavan. Features Vijayakumar, Manjula, Rajinikanth, Latha and Jai Ganesh. The film is about Shankar, the son of a corrupt businessman, whose sister defies tradition by escaping a forced marriage to live with Simon, the poor man she truly loves, facing harsh judgment from society for their bold choice.

Simon and Salim are close friends from a poor background, while Shankar and his sister Latha are the children of a wealthy but corrupt businessman. Despite their differences in status, love blossoms, Latha falls for Simon, Shankar falls in love with a kind-hearted girl named Alamelu, and Salim is already a married man leading a simple life. Trouble begins when Latha is forced into an arranged marriage with a man chosen by her family. Unable to accept the marriage, Latha runs away and seeks refuge with Simon.

Though they live together out of love and trust, society begins to judge and isolate them drastically. Latha is condemned for acting against custom, while Simon endures abuse and scorn. Shankar, meanwhile, backs his sister and keeps dating Alamelu despite his father's opposition. As pressure on Simon and Latha grows, she bravely speaks out to expose the brutality and abusive character of the man she was coerced to marry. Her courage and candour alter perceptions of others. Eventually, society starts to see reality. Dignified reconnection between Latha and Simon shows that the power of love, and truth overcomes prejudice and judgment. Everyone gets peace along their chosen road.

Themes of love, class division and social prejudice are investigated by Shankar Saleem Simon. The movie examines moral dilemmas, emotional conflicts to show that bravery and honesty can upset deeply entrenched social conventions. It offers a sincere story about standing up for love, and individual independence with well-crafted characters and a solid emotional core.
