“Subham” is a newly-released Tollywood comedy-horror film by director Praveen Kandregula. This new entrepreneurial film features the talents of Harshith Reddy, Gavireddy Srinivas, Charan Peri, Shriya Kontham, and Shravani Lakshmi. Against the stunning backdrop of the peaceful coastal town of Bheemili arc-set in the early 2000s-the story weaves a tale peppered with dark humour, intrigue and supernatural elements, making for an irresistible watch.
The film immediately establishes his hero Srinivas (Harshith Reddy), a meek yet good-natured cable TV operator who catches the interest of a fierce and fiery Srivalli (Shriya Kontham), a wily, take-charge MBA grad. It all seems like an ordinary married life, until one night, Srivalli starts behaving in a weird manner at precisely 9 PM every night. She turns into a monster, a dragon, a Medusa even, far from her old self. Before long, Srinivas discovers that his friends are all going through the same thing with their own wives. Each night at 10:30 PM, all three women act terribly out of character, and no one knows what’s causing it.
Desperate to get to the bottom of the mystery, the three friends set out to investigate. They track the odd behaviour all the way to a nationally popular soap opera, in prime time, no less, showing at 9 PM. The more they dig, the more they discover something sinister lurking in the town’s history. What starts off as a comedy of errors quickly becomes a supernatural story of possession, maintaining a playful, vibrant spirit throughout.
"Subham" is missable. Full of hilarious characters, clever writing and a spooktacular twist fit for Halloween, it’s perfect for kids and families seeking a fun, easy weekend adventure. Though the movie lags in places and has some underwhelming aspects, it’s still a fun cocktail of humour and light scares.
