"Uttama Villain" (2015) is a Tamil comedy-drama film directed by Ramesh Aravind. Starring Kamal Haasan, K. Viswanath, K. Balachander, Jayaram, and Andrea Jeremiah, the movie is about a dying superstar who wants to make one final movie with his estranged mentor, mixing real-life sentiment with onscreen humour.

Manoranjan (Kamal Haasan) is a well-known film star facing personal and health issues. Despite being married to Varalakshmi (Urvashi), he had once been in love with a woman named Yamini (Parvathy Thiruvothu), with whom he fathered a daughter named Manonmani (Parvathy). Her husband brings up Manonmani after Yamini's death. Manoranjan's relationship with his son, Manohar, is also strained. Things worsen when Manoranjan discovers that he is suffering from terminal brain cancer, a fact he hides from his family. He chooses to quit a movie being produced by his in-law, Poornachandra Rao (K. Viswanath), and instead collaborates with his former mentor, Margadarsi (K. Balachander), to produce a good comedy as his last project. Much as they had bad blood previously, Margadarsi consents to direct the movie upon hearing Manoranjan's illness from Dr. Arpana (Andrea Jeremiah), who is herself in an affair with Manoranjan. Poornachandra Rao and Varalakshmi are enraged by this move and leave with Manohar.

The film that they produce, Uttama Villain, is a comedy fantasy of a street painter, Uttaman, who cunningly escapes death with the help of Princess Karpagavalli. While producing the film, Manoranjan's health falls apart. Margadarsi insists that he reveal the truth about his condition, which leads to tearful reunions of him with his family members. Varalakshmi suffers a heart attack on hearing the news but recovers and forgives him. Manonmani forgives Manoranjan as well after finding an undelivered letter he had penned to Yamini years before. Manoranjan finishes the movie but soon breaks down and is hospitalised.

"Uttama Villain" is a heartfelt film that expertly blends humor, regret, and redemption. Kamal Haasan shines in a emotionally charged performance, delivering one of his most nuanced performances. The film touches on mortality, legacy, and forgiveness, so it's not just a tribute to film, it's a celebration of life.
