Thama, formerly titled Vampires of Vijay Nagar, is an upcoming Indian fantasy thriller directed by Aditya Sarpotdar. The film is produced by Dinesh Vijan and Amar Kaushik under Maddock Films, as part of the growing Maddock Supernatural Universe, which includes hits like Stree, Bhediya, Munjya, and Stree 2. Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna play the main roles in Thama, while Paresh Rawal, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, and Varun Dhawan make cameo appearances. The movie promises a distinctive genre experience by fusing romance, horror-comedy, historical intrigue and supernatural fantasy.
Thama tells the tale of a historian who discovers a mysterious vampire, and a forbidden love legend set in two different timelines: the ancient Vijayanagara empire and modern-day Delhi. When ancient manuscripts are found and strange events begin to haunt him, he is drawn into a world where myth permeates reality. As the story progresses with tension, and emotional depth, fate, love and the paranormal all come together.
Ayushmann Khurrana portrays a man caught up in a bloody past and an inquisitive historian. Rashmika Mandanna is portrayed as the mysterious woman whose past and present are closely linked to vampire mythology. The narrative strikes a balance between heart, and horror as it examines their relationship across lifetimes. Paresh Rawal and Nawazuddin Siddiqui play important roles that add gravitas, Varun Dhawan's Bhediya cameo links it to the wider universe.
Thama is set to be released on Diwali 2025. The first look came out in October 2024, and the video was cut to a bloody love story that had social media buzzing with excitement. The teaser is set to drop with War 2 in August 2025, and is sure to further increase interest. Thama is the fifth film in the Maddock Supernatural Universe and is important in developing the mythology and transitioning into more dark, romantic storytelling in the horror-comedy genre.
