An unexpected turn of events due to the creative differences that boiled up, Rani Mukerji who was to feature in the Amit Rai directed upcoming film Oh My Goddess has walked out of the project bringing an unexpected pause to the progress of the film.
The collaboration had initially stirred quite a significant buzz in the Bollywood industry but Akshay Kumar had subtly confirmed Rani Mukerji joining the team after he had congratulated Rani on the release of Mardaani 3. He also referred to her as Goddess of Acting encouraging the audience to watch her performance in Mardaani 3.
However, it was also said that Rani Mukerji had not confirmed and signed the film Oh My Goddess. She did get involved actively with the discussions pertaining to the script but disagreements began to surface when the actor shared her own vision regarding certain aspects of the story narratives. She had also not agreed on few post production process. Drawing from her own extensive experience she had specific perspective on how the narratives should unfold. This was not well accepted by the director Amit Rai who had his won strong ideas as the film’s creative director. Therefore, it got difficult for both to align to their thoughts and come together on the same page. Actor Akshay Kumar is said to have tried his best to mediate and bring about the peace so that the film can carry on with its collaboration. The team concluded that it would not work out well with disagreements and differences.
Rani Mukerji a very professional at her work chose to exit the project after amicably decision even though she had liked the script. The makers are now looking to cast a senior actress for the role.
About Oh My Goddess
The film is produced by Akshay Kumar in association with Viacom 18 and to be directed by Amit Rai. Originally the filming was to go on floors for April 2026 with a start to finish schedule. However, with Rani Mukerji’s exit, the project has had a pause now until the team reworks on the new casting.
