The upcoming Marathi film Godavari has been selected to be screened at the Cannes 2022 film festival. It is one of the six films selected by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. This is a huge achievement and honour not just for the makers of Godavari but for Marathi cinema as a whole. The film is directed by Nikhil Mahajan.

Speaking of his experiences, Godavari’s lead actor Jitendra Joshi said, “From Pune’s Nana Peth to Cannes, my journey has been memorable.” The actor who was close to late filmmaker Nishikant Kamat further added, “It was on my mind to do something for Nishi sir. I discussed it with Nikhil Mahajan and both of us thought that the best way to honour a person who loved cinema and was passionate about it, was by making a film dedicated to him. That’s how the journey of Godavari began. It’s a film that talks about a faithless person’s journey towards finding faith, in life, in people.”

Jitendra Joshi will be completing 25 years in cinema this December. He has been part of incredible projects like Ventilator, Baghtos Kay Mujra Kar and Choricha Mamla, or web series like Sacred Games and Cartel.
