The Babbar family have found itself in a feud and spotlight when Smita Patil was alive and now again in the spotlight.

Prateik Babbar and Priya Banerjee had not invited the Babbar family and his father, Raj Babbar to his marriage ceremony, which was on February 14th. Prateik set the records straight, mentioning that the decision of not inviting his father to his wedding wasn’t driven by any personal rift between the father and son.

Prateik Reflects on His Private Wedding, Family Dynamics

He said as much as he would have liked them to be, it was purely misinterpreted by the media and the decision was due to the circumstances. His wedding ceremony was private, held at his mother’s residence. Given the past complications between his mother and his stepmother, he did not feel it appropriate to invite his father and family to the ceremony held at his mother’s home. He said that during his birth lots of things were said by the press and it would be unethical to have his father and his family attend the wedding at Smita’s home.

The circumstances are different now and it wasn’t about rejecting any family member, but it was to respect his mother and her wishes. Prateik apologised to his father and his family for not inviting them to his marriage. He remembers being his grandmother mentioning that Smita had decided to bring up the child as a single mother.

He said people are impulsive to make their own stories and say things that are distasteful without understanding why certain decisions have to be made. Prateik changed his name to Prateik Smita Patil. He said he wants to be wholly associated to the woman who gave him birth.
