Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s Bollywood classic Anand starring Amitabh Bachchan and Rajesh Khanna became a cult film when it released in 1971. The film is now all set to have a remake by the original producer N.C Sippy’s grandson Sameer Raj Sippy along with producer Vikram Khakhar. The film is reportedly in the scripting stage but the cast is yet to be finalised.

Speaking about the remake Vikram said, “Digging into our own classics, we will find invaluable gems rather than scouting for stories, internationally or regionally. Placing Anand in the post-Covid era, where we emphasise on the value of life, will enhance the story of Anand.”

Sippy on the other hand stated, “Keeping in mind the sensibilities of the original film and the emotions attached, I felt the current generation needs to be retold many stories that are so relevant today and especially when there is a great appetite for good content.”

Not many Fans however are happy about Anand being remade and want the cult classic to be untouched and just the way it is. Actors like Akshay Kumar, Ranbir Kapoor and Varun Dhawan are some of the names being suggested to be cast in the film. Anand tells the story of a man who is terminally ill with cancer. He passes away touching the lives and inspiring many before he dies. The lead was played by Rajesh Khanna in the titular role, Amitabh Bachchan and Johnny Walker.
