Karan Johar’s 2006 film Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna received mixed reviews from the audience on its release and it went on to become a cult classic. This was because of the musical romantic drama which also explores the marital infidelity and the emotional dissatisfaction in the relationships much ahead of its time.  It followed on the characters of Rani Mukerji and Shah Rukh Khan’s characters in the film which begins with the extra marital affair much after years of unhappy married life with their respective on-screen spouses, played by Abhishek Bachchan and Preity Zinta. 

Karan Johar recalls the onscreen emotional turmoil had affected his actors behind the scenes and that it was difficult for actress Preity Zinta to understand why Shah Rukh Khan’s character cheated in the film Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna.   He recalled she had got touchy and very personal. 

Karan Johar had taken Preity Zinta for a walk to explain to her this is Rhea and its happening to her and talking about Rani’s on-screen husband, Abhishek Bachchan, Karan shared that he remembers Abhishek Bachchan also had  broken down at one point of time .  He said the film talked about the ground reality of what people go through in their marriages and cannot address it in open. It talks about what goes through the unrestrained experience. 

About Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna 

It was Karan Johar’s third directorial venture after his Kuch Kuch Hota Hai in 1998 and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham in 2001 followed by the Rani Mukerji and Shah Rukh Khan starrer, Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna in 2006 starring in the film were also Amitabh Bachchan and Kirron Kher in a cameo role. 

In 2023, He directed Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani . Karan is set to direct his new venture for his next film very soon.
