Arjun Mathur started his career as an Assistant Director for the film Bunty Aur Babli in 2005 and in Rang De Basanti in 2006.


Arjun was first discovered by Mira Nair and Farhan Akhtar through whom he had respectively been part of short films such as Migration and Positive for the Aids Jaago project which was premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2006. He played the lead character in the Amazon Original series Made in Heaven which earne3d him an International Emmy Award nomination for Best Actor.


He further acted in mainstream cinema in films like Luck By Chance, My Name is Khan, Ankur Arora Murder Case as well in critically acclaimed films like Barah Aana, Coffee Bloom. He was also a part of the National Award winning I am and in the English language Film, ‘Fireflies’ for which he was nominated for Best Actor Award at the New York Indian Film Festival in 2013. 

In 2012, Arjun Mathur garnered praises for the youth centric mini-series, ‘ Bring On The Night’ which was a first of its kind of a film to be produced in India. Thereafter he appeared in number of television commercials and was also the brand ambassador the leading Indian lifestyle brand, ‘Godrej’.


Between the year 2013 and 2016, Arjun Mathur was seen in Channel 4’s British drama series called the ‘Indian Summers’ followed by his role in Brij Mohan Amar Rahe in the Netflix original in 2018 which saw Arjun step away from the image he had been in. He impressed the audience and critics as the underwear salesman from Delhi who tries to fake his own death and fails miserably.

 

In 2013, He played Dr. Romesh Mathur in the medical thriller Ankur Arora Murder Case.

 

In 2019, He played the lead in Made in Heaven in Zoya Akhtar’s Amazon original series and was nominated as the Best Performance by an Actor category. He had essayed the role of a gay man living in Urban India when homosexuality was illegal. The show itself had a widespread audience and was critically acclaimed. He eventually returned in the second season four years later.


He also portrayed Rahul Gandhi in the biographical drama, The Accidental Prime Minister in 2019.

Arjun Mathur was also seen the film The Gone Game a suspense thriller series set and conceived which was released during the Covid 19 Lockdown in 2020.


In 2022, he was a part of the gritty drama Jugaadistan, a film about the college campus life and its politics. He further acted in the film Big Girls Don’t Cry in 2024, a coming-of-age series which is set in an all-girls boarding school.


Arjun Mathur’s other major films were Lord Curzon Ki Haveli in 2023 to 2025. A dark comedy thriller directed by Anshuman Jha which featured him in the lead role as Rohit.
